Implementation
Implementation
of a RMIS can take as little as 30 days or up to 12 months for a highly
complex implementation. Implementation is a process that involves data conversion
and consolidation, software configuration, custom report writing, server
configuration, descriptor code mapping, and training. Detail is provided
below:
1. Data conversion and consolidation:
(Please see Data conversion)
2. Software and server configuration - The software must be configured
to include user defined fields and tabs. All users must be set up with
the proper security views. The location hierarchy needs to be loaded.
The server hosting the RMIS software and data will need to be configured
and data will need to be loaded onto the server.
3. Custom report writing - Some complex reports will need to be
written by your vendor or a report-writing expert. Many systems include
a powerful, user-friendly ad-hoc reporting tool, but complex reports with
multiple evaluation points or complex allocation structures require expert
report writers.
4. Descriptor code mapping - Loss descriptors (cause, nature, part)
will need to be mapped to a single set of codes. Carriers and TPAs use
different codes and descriptions, and you and your selected vendor must
decide which set of codes to use so that reports will display correct
information.
5. Training - All RMIS users will need to be trained on system
functionality. A designated system administrator usually receives specialized
training regarding system security, password management and system maintenance.
Most RMIS vendors can provide additional or refresher training as needed.
